Vegetarian/Vegan options are available at Government’s canteen!
We visited the Cabinet office‘s staff canteen to have the vegan lunch, which started from today!
We, Vege Project Japan supported the company which we introduced and has the veggie ingredients to start veggie menus to the canteen.

All prepared vegan menu was sold out!
Everyone who were eating and we asked interview said it was delicious!!
Many people were surprised with the fake meat quality. They believed it was real meat.
More and more places start veggie options.

Below is the report from the government officer.
- 内閣府・内閣官房の職員食堂が、平成２９年３月１７日（金）より、ベジ・ランチを試験的に導入することとなりました（主にビーガン対応で日によって乳卵を含む日もあります）。おそらく、私の知る限り、日本政府の各省庁の中では初めてのことではないかと思います。
- これは、近年、地球環境保護や動物保護などの理由からベジタリアンやビーガン食を選択する人が世界中で増えており、内閣府・内閣官房職員の中にも、自身がベジタリアンやビーガンであったり、ベジに関心を持っている人が少なからず見られることから、食堂運営業者に対し、ベジ・メニューの導入に踏み切るようお願いしたものです。
- 当面は、３月を試験期間とした上で毎週金曜日のみの提供とし、その際の利用者の反応や売れ行きなどを考慮しながら、４月の本格導入に向け検討していくこととなっています。
- なお、４月には、ポール・マッカートニー氏が来日する予定ですが、今回のベジ・メニュー導入の決定は、「ミート・フリー・マンデー（週いちベジ）」キャンペーンを積極的に推進しているマッカートニー氏への敬意と、今回の来日公演への祝意、という意味合いも込められています。
- いずれにしましても、２０２０年の東京オリンピックを控え、これからビーガンやベジタリアンも含め多くの外国人訪問客が見込まれる中、今回の措置がひとつの刺激となって、今後、ベジ・メニューを導入するレストランがさらに増えることを願っています。そして、ビーガン・ベジタリアン料理は、肉や魚料理に比べて全く遜色がなく、しかも、お洒落でクールなんだという認識が広がれば、非常に嬉しく思います。
